1. One-paragraph summary
JunkRabbit Detroit is a junk removal service for Metro Detroit, built for basements, the city's 2-cubic-yard weekly curb limit and inherited-house cleanouts. Pre-war houses in Corktown, Woodbridge and Indian Village, postwar brick ranches in Warren, Livonia and Dearborn Heights, Downtown and Midtown towers, and subdivisions from Troy to Macomb Township all get the same flat per-item price, carried out from any floor, basement included. Customers upload a photo or pick items online and see the total before booking, with no call needed. Vetted, insured local haulers work 7 days a week from 8am to midnight, with same-day pickup when booked by 4 PM. A standard sofa is $126, a queen mattress $103 and a full truck $732.
2. What JunkRabbit is built for in Detroit
Basements everywhere
Detroit's median home was built in 1947 and most city ZIP codes report 1939 or earlier, so the junk is usually below grade. Crews carry it up with no stairs fee. See the Detroit basement cleanout guide.
The 2-cubic-yard curb limit
The City of Detroit takes up to 2 cubic yards of bulk a week at the curb. Anything bigger, heavier, excluded or inside the house needs another route. See Detroit's 2-cubic-yard limit, explained.
Estate and inherited-house cleanouts
Decades of population change left many long-owned family houses to heirs who often live elsewhere. Cleanouts can be priced from photos and done without anyone flying in. See estate cleanout cost in Detroit.
Towers and managed buildings
Downtown, Midtown, Lafayette Park and Southfield buildings usually require a certificate of insurance and an elevator booking. JunkRabbit emails a COI within 1 hour. See apartment cleanout cost in Detroit.

6. How a pickup works
- See the price. Pick items or upload a photo at detroit.getjunkrabbit.com. The total appears on screen, with no call and no phone number needed to see it.
- Book. Choose an arrival window, any day 8am to midnight, and add a card. Same-day is available if booked by 4 PM.
- (If needed) COI. Add the managing agent at checkout; the certificate goes out within 1 hour.
- Pickup. A vetted, insured local hauler comes inside, takes items from any floor, disassembles if needed and carries everything out. You get text updates on the day.
- Price check. If there are extra items that weren't in the booking, the crew shows the updated price and waits for your approval before loading them.
- Disposal. We try to donate usable items when local charities accept them and recycle whatever we can; refrigerants are recovered from fridges and AC units.
7. vs City of Detroit weekly bulk pickup
Since June 3, 2024, the City of Detroit has collected bulk every week instead of every other week. Residents can set out up to 2 cubic yards of bulk and renovation materials a week, about the size of two stoves, at the curb by 7 a.m. on collection day, and never in front of a vacant lot. Renovation pieces must be under 50 pounds each. Concrete, brick, asphalt, shingles, tires, auto parts, fluids, metal poles and pipes, and tree trunks are excluded. Outlier Media reported in 2022 that exceeding the limit can bring a $1500 fine. Suburbs such as Dearborn and Warren run their own programs with different rules.
If you can carry the item to the curb yourself and it fits the week's 2 cubic yards, the city program is free and the right choice. JunkRabbit is for everything else: basements and upper floors, loads over the limit, excluded items like tires and concrete, alley garages, and anything that needs to go today. See 5 things Detroit bulk pickup won't take.
8. vs national operators
National franchises such as 1-800-GOT-JUNK and Junk King typically quote by truck volume and confirm the final price once the crew sees the job. JunkRabbit publishes a flat price for each item online, so the total is known before booking, and the job is done by a vetted, insured local hauler. There is no stairs fee and no same-day surcharge.
